Outdoor adventures in Peru

There are many beautiful trails, forests, mountains, lakes, and other scenic havens in Peru.  Hiking through the wilderness can be incredibly strenuous.  Often, outdoor lovers take the train from one major city to another and then hike the local trails.   Here are a few must see areas for your Peruvian adventure:

Go see the San Francisco Monastery.  It is one of the most impressive monuments in South America. It was built in the late 1600s and has several gilded side altars, lattice domes, and catacombs buried underneath.

While in Lima, you have to visit Miraflores.  This area of Lima has wonderful gardens, beaches, and parks, with plenty of trails for walkers, bikers, and joggers. One local favorite is Love Park. And of course, don’t forget to try the ceviche.  This is a local favorite food, made up of a mix of raw fish, onions, and chili peppers and marinated in lime.

Get plenty of rest, then tackle the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. This trail is really three trails (Mollepata, Classic and One Day). They wind along the Andes mountains and take you through several environments, including a cloud forest and beautiful alpine tundra. Every visitor must go on this adventure. You are certain to be in awe of the Incan ruins.
